The boys and girls in St. Ultans gave a huge welcome to a very special visitor to one of our assemblies in April. We were delighted to welcome a past pupil, and home-town hero Shannon Coady.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls in Múinteoir Tara’s class who made their First Holy Communion yesterday. A huge thank you to all the staff, parents and guardians who helped them prepare for their day. The children were fantastic and everyone looked amazing in their communion outfits.
Primary Ensemble Project: PRESTO Players in the NCC
What is the PRIMARY ENSEMBLE PROJECT?
The National Concert Hall and the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) created an exciting and innovative programme for primary schools with orchestras. Aimed at developing key areas of early ensemble playing in a vibrant and holistic programme, RIAM specialist tutors visited schools in late 2022 and early 2023 to lead four engaging and participative workshops.
During these workshops, the tutors helped the schools’ young musicians to develop aural and technical skills alongside ensemble performance and improvisation techniques.
St. Ultans PRESTO Players perform in the National Concert Hall
Today, following these workshops, the orchestras from different schools met in the National Concert Hall to play with the other participating schools. It was an amazing opportunity for the children to perform on the Main Stage of the National Concert Hall.

We are all getting very excited about Wednesdays Cherry Orchard Community St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The children have been making banners for their classes, along with all of the Patrick’s Day art they have made for their classes. Here are a few of the photos of all their hard work.
How to bring Cúpla Focail into your home...
As Seachtain na Gaeilge approaches, here are 5 suggestions on how you could celebrate the Irish language and bring the cúpla focail into your home:
#1. Get Stuck on Irish
Using post-it notes or some card & blu-tack, pick an object in your kitchen, bathroom, living room and write in clear letters as Gaeilge. Attach the word in an visible place on the object. For example the door into the kitchen could have the word “doras” on it.

Plate – pláta
Dishwasher – niteoir soithí
#2. Tell Your Kids How Good They Are as Gaeilge!

#3. Use everyday phrases
Why not replace ‘thank you’ all week in your house with “Go raibh maith agat“?

#4. Language Shopping!
When you’re putting away the shopping check how many items are known as Gaeilge by anyone in the house.
Aim to find five words you know; apples, flour, cereal etc. or learn an extra five (great way to increase vocabulary).
Keep a chart on the fridge and add to it every day or week.

Cereal – granach
Milk – bainne
Carrots – cairéid
Chocolate – seacláid
#5. Sing or Play Games in the Car
While driving in the car pass the time by translating a favourite song to Irish, or counting as far as possible as Gaeilge.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
This week in St. Ultans we will have started to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. There are lots of activities between now and Wednesday 15th March to look out for;
Siopaí Gaeilge
Ar an Luan, d’oscail muid ár Siopaí Gaeilge inár seomraí ranga. On Monday, we opened our ‘Siopaí Gaeilge’ in our classrooms.
Is féidir le paistí a dheanann iarracht Gaeilge a usáid i rith an lae, airgead a fháil ó na múinteoirí. Children who try to speak Irish during the day, can get money from the teachers.
Is féidir leis na bpáistí a t-airgead seo a úsáid chun duaiseanna a cheannach ón Siopa Gaeilge. The children can use this money to buy prizes from the Siopa Gaeilge.
Lá Eadaí Codlata
Ar an Máirt, bhí Lá Eadaí Codlata againn. On Tuesday we had a pyjama day.
Ghléas na páistí suas ina eadaí codlata chun airgead a bhailiú chun tacú le cúis mhaith. Bhí lá iontach acu. The children dressed up in their pj’s to raise money for a good cause. The had a great day.
Seó Gaeilge
De hAoine, beidh Taispeantais Gaeilge againn do na ranganna ar fad, sa halla. On Friday we will have a ‘Seó Gaeilge’ for all of the children in the halla.
Tráth na Gceist
Ar an Luan, 14ú Márta, beidh Tráth na gCeist againn do pháistí ó rang a 1 go rang a 6. On Monday, 13th March, we will have a table quiz for all children in 1st to 6th Class.
wednesday 15th - St. Patricks Day Parade
This year we will be having our first Cherry Orchard Community St. Patricks Day Parade. The parade will take place at 11am leaving from the Equine Center, going down to the roundabout at the Community Center, and finishing at the school gates. We would like to invite you all to attend to cheer on the parade.
